It’s a well-worn D&D trope to start an adventure off at a tavern. But if you’ve ever wondered what happens behind the scenes of those bustling taprooms, a brand-new video game is now on the menu. Wizards of the Coast has officially announced Dungeons & Dragons: Long Rest Tavern, a cozy management simulator that flips traditional D&D roles on their head by putting players in the shoes of a local innkeeper instead of an wandering adventurer.

Developed by French studio Homo Ludens and published by Dotemu, the game will be launching in early 2027 for PC, but you can add it to your wishlist now on Steam.

Below, we pour out all the details on what to expect when D&D opens the doors on this cozy tavern simulator.

What is Dungeons & Dragons: Long Rest Tavern?

Set in the Dalelands of the Forogtten Realms, Dungeons & Dragons: Long Rest Tavern tasks players with building, customizing and managing a bustling fantasy inn from the ground up. To keep your establishment running, you’ll need to manage a range of resources, including hiring waitstaff and bartenders, concocting recipes, constructing floor plans and brewing signature libations for weary wanderers passing through.

As your tavern grows, you’ll also encounter rival innkeepers eager to put you out of business. To keep ahead of them, however, you’ll also be able to fund upgrades and expansions, adding artifacts and magical momentos provided by adventurer patrons.

Who is the studio behind the game?

The game features the official Dungeons & Dragons license from Wizards of the Coast, but is being developed by Paris-based independent studio Homo Ludens (who until now is best known for its Blooming Business casino simulator series).

It’s being published, however, by Dotemu, who is also based in France and released a wide range of games, including most recently Warhammer: Age of Sigmar Deathmaster, in addition to working on IPs including Marvel and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

If you’re ready to trade your sword and spellbook for an apron and beer stein, you won’t have to wait too long. Dungeons & Dragons: Long Rest Tavern is officially scheduled to make its debut in early 2027. We’ll update this page with an exact date once it’s been confirmed.

What platforms is the game available on?

While official platform rollouts are still being finalized, the game is confirmed for release on PC only, with potential console ports to be announced at a later date.

Final Thoughts

It’s great to see a Dungeons & Dragons video game that explore a genre outside of tactical combat and dungeon crawlers. Giving players a chance to experience the other side of the tavern counter sounds like it has the potential to be an absolute blast.

We’ll be keeping a close eye on the tavern doors as we get closer to launch and will update this page with new information as it’s made available. In the meantime, below is the official reveal trailer on the Dotemu YouTube channel.
